Off-duty cop disarms gunman who escapes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An off-duty policeman attached to the Westmoreland Division disarmed a gunman on Mint Road yesterday, after the culprit brandished the weapon and ordered the driver of the taxi they were in to divert.
However, the man managed to escape after the struggle, leaving a Sig Sauer .22 semi-automatic pistol with one round of ammunition behind.
Reports from the Morgan’s Bridge police are that about 9:30 pm, the policeman and the gunman were among three passengers in a motor car that was travelling along the Grange Hill main road.
The gunman brandished his firearm and ordered the driver to divert onto Mint Road.
The police officer reportedly intervened and a struggle ensued between the two.
Although the gunman managed to escape, the police say investigations are continuing.
