KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness is scheduled to make three statements this afternoon, when the House of Representatives meet at Gordon House, downtown Kingston.

Details of the statements have still not been made public. However they are expected to respond to a number of recent issues.

Cabinet ministers are to answer four questions which have been on the House’s Questions Paper since the last session:

(1)Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Karl Samuda, to answer Dr. Dayton Campbell, MP, regarding sugar production at the Long Pond factory;

(2) The Minister of Energy, Science and Technology, Dr Andrew Wheatley, to answer Peter Bunting, MP, regarding the possible award of a third cellular licence to local investor Caricel;

(3) The Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries to answer Anthony Hylton, MP, regarding the Special Economic Zones Act; and

(4) The Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries to answer Mikael Phillips, MP, regarding production incentives for farmers in Manchester North Western

In terms of Government business, four pieces of legislation will be dealt with:

The Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulation Authority Act, 2016 to be debated;

The Financial Services Commission (Amendment) Act, 2016 to be debated;

The Financial Administration & Audit (Amendment) Act, 2016 to be debated;

The Capital Development Fund (Withdrawal) (No. 1), Order 2016, Resolution under the Bauxite (Production Levy) Act to be debated.

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Floyd Green, MP, will also move for adoption of Reports of the Ethics Committee regarding the exemption of members having contracts with the government.
