PNP sets date for selection of new St Andrew South candidate
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has confirmed a date for the selection of a candidate to replace Dr Omar Davies as chairman of the St Andrew South constituency.
General Secretary of the party Paul Burke told OBSERVER ONLINE a short while ago that the contest between former Justice Minister Mark Golding and former managing director at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) Colin Campbell is set for July 25.
Davies, a former minister of transport and works as well as finance, earlier this year said that he would not be seeking re-election. His health has been cited as the reason for his decision.
He has since openly endorsed Golding as the more suitable candidate to succeed him.
The winner of the selection exercise is expected to represent the PNP as its standard-bearer in a by-election when Davies retires as Member of Parliament.
He is expected to do so in August.
