Police institute political campaigning ban in Flanker
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Constabulary Force has instituted a ban on all political campaign activities in the community of Flanker in St James, with immediate effect.
This decision was taken in consultation with the Election Centre, which comprises, inter alia, the political ombudsman and representatives of the People’s National Party (PNP), Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Accordingly, the police say no permit will be granted for any political march, motorcade, spot meeting, or political meeting in Flanker.
In an effort to reduce violent confrontations throughout the campaign period, the JCF is also asking all political representatives to encourage their supporters to refrain from carrying firearms and to desist from wearing masks at all political meetings or gatherings.
The JCF says it will continue to maintain a close watch on Flanker and other communities and will institute other measures as required.
