Police move to head off Dunkirk gang war
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police from the Kingston east Division have taken preemptive action to quell a gang feud that is threatening to erupt in the community of McIntyre Villa also known as ‘Dunkirk’.
Police report that tension has been brewing between factions from Bryden and Brae streets for some weeks. The tension intensified with the stabbing death of an unidentified man in the community Tuesday morning.
According to a community member who requested anonymity, the unidentified man is not from Dunkirk but came there to “hide out”. The source said the man was attacked and stabbed multiple times and an illegal firearm taken from him.
“We are maintaining a 24-hour presence in the Dunkirk area and will continue to do so as the rule of law and order must be maintained,” Superintend Arthur Brown who heads the division told the Jamaica Observer.
Also yesterday police patrolling the community seized an AK 47 assault rifle discovered on the roof of a building. No one was arrested in connection with the find.
