Red Stripe to donate 10 cents from every beer sold in December to Haiti
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As the people of Haiti slowly move from relief to restoration mode following the passage of Hurricane Matthew in October, Red Stripe is announcing support for the country with a corporate donation.
Red Stripe revealed today that it will donate 10 cents from every bottle of the beer sold during the month of December to Haiti.
The company’s managing director, Ricardo Nuncio, said that it is Red Stripe’s Christmas gift to neighbouring Haitians, who have suffered tremendous loss with the passage of Hurricane Matthew in October.
“We were spared, so we feel it’s important that we lend a hand,” Nuncio said.
He stated that the initiative gives all of the company’s stakeholders, including consumers, an opportunity to participate.
“Think about it, it’s the season of giving and every time you buy a Red Stripe in December you will be giving to Haiti. It’s also an excellent opportunity for us to live the Heineken commitment to brewing a better world,” Nuncio added.
Red Stripe is part of the Heineken Company, which also owns and operates the Brana Brewery in Haiti.
Although the brewery was not severely affected by the hurricane, whole sections of the Haitian countryside have been decimated.
Aid agencies have reported that more than 2.1 million Haitians were affected by the hurricane, most of them still struggling to get food, clean water and medication, while more than 175,000 people were displaced.
