Russell ruled out of Trials due to injury
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Word number two-ranked Janieve Russell was a no show for the heats of the women’s 400m hurdles on today’s opening day of the JAAA National Senior Championships at the National Stadium in Kingston.
OBSERVER ONLINE sources report that the University of Technology student suffered a leg injury two weeks ago and has not been able to train since.
Russell, who has the second fastest time in the world so far, 53.96 seconds, is Jamaica’s best hope for a medal in the event at the Olympic Games later this year in Brazil.
She could still make the team, however, providing she had submitted a medical certificate and if she proves her fitness in time for the start of the Games.
