Senior cop faces court for hitting cabbie
A senior superintendent of police, accused of hitting a taxi operator in the head with his firearm, was on Wednesday bound over to return to court on June 13.
Senior Superintendent Andrew Lewis was given the new date after his attorney, Linton Walters, told the court that he’s currently awaiting statements he requested from INDECOM and the director of public prosecutions.
Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey advised Walters to copy the letters he wrote to the clerk of court so the process can be supervised by the court.
Lewis, 47, reportedly assaulted the complainant on the compound of a gas station at the intersection of North Odeon Avenue and Constant Spring Road, in St Andrew, on July 23 last year.
The complainant was sitting in his car when the reported incident occurred.After coming on the scene, Lewis reportedly went to the complainant’s taxi with gun in hand and struck him.
The matter was subsequently investigated and the cop was charged for unlawful wounding.
