KINGSTON, Jamaica – Slain Consatble Lynden Barrett was on Thursday night remembered as a brave policeman who was always prepared to go above and beyond to serve and protect. 

The late constable‎ was shot dead by gunmen in Denham Town on July 21. He was 23 years old.

Residents wept openly as the vigil stepped up a notch and aspects of Barrett’s life were displayed on video.

“We really miss him. May his memory live on,” said Sandra Wallace, a resident of West Kingston.

She was among the dozens of residents and members of the JCF gathered at the police station in remembrance of the constable.

“Look how them just end the youth life,” another woman was overheard saying.

‎”Words can’t express how we feel and to see aspects of his life being displayed on the big screen it really hurt me heart,” a resident from Tivoli Gardens said.

Senior members of the Kingston Western Police Division also expressed sadness at the passing of their colleague.

“Right now we lose a member of our team but we just have to soldier on,” said one senior officer.

‎They described Barrett as a hard and determined member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, who had big dreams and was destined for greatness.

The slain constable will be buried on Sunday in Palmer’s Cross, Clarendon.

Barrett’s funeral comes four days after police held two men in connection with his death.

The men have been identified as Horatio Livine, otherwise called ‘Ratio’, of Dread Lane, Denham Town, and Gratiano Green, alias ‘Beh Beh’, of Regent Street and Tulip Lane in Denham Town, Kingston 14.

Livine was captured about 4:30 pm Tuesday in Silent Hill, Manchester, and Green was held about 6:30 am Wednesday on Belvedere Road in Red Hills, St Andrew.
