Transport Authority denies officers slammed into suspected taxi
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Transport Authority (TA) says it is conducting an investigation into an incident published on March 22 and March 23 by the Jamaica Observer regarding the slamming of a TA vehicle into a motor car suspected of being operated as an illegal taxi on North Street in downtown Kingston.
In a release today the Transport Authority sought to refute claims that the agency has reneged on its policy, which prohibits the chasing and blocking of motor vehicles during road operations.
“Based on preliminary investigation, the Authority further refutes the reported claim by the occupants of the Nissan station wagon that the Transport Authority bus slammed into the car they were travelling in on North Street,” managing director of the TA, Donald Foster said
Meanwhile, the TA said that the practice of blocking motor vehicles is neither condoned, nor is it an approved enforcement methodology employed by the Authority. It added that employees found culpable will face the full sanctions.
