Tropical Storm Nicole strengthens
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Tropical Storm Nicole is strengthening and is expected to regain hurricane strength by Tuesday night as it moves towards Bermuda, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) has said.
It said the storm, which is 505 miles south of Bermuda, has sustained maximum winds of 65 miles per hour (mph).
In its latest bulletin, the NHC said that the 14th named storm this 2016 Atlantic Hurricane season is moving toward the north near seven mph and this general motion is expected to continue today.
“A turn toward the north-northwest is expected to occur tonight, followed by a turn toward the northwest on Tuesday,” it said, adding that “gradual strengthening is forecast to begin tonight and continue into Tuesday. Nicole is expected become a hurricane again by Tuesday”.
The NHC said swells associated with Nicole and Post-Tropical Cyclone Matthew should increase on Bermuda during the next couple of days.
“These swells will create dangerous surf conditions and rip currents,” the NHC said, urging residents to closely monitor local weather bulletins.
