Tufton suggests bipartisan committee on Zika virus
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Health, Dr Christopher Tufton, has proposed a joint committee from both sides of the House of Representatives to monitor the national Zika virus response programme.
“I am prepared to sit with a committee and go through all the concerns to make this a truly bipartisan effort,” Dr Tufton told the House this afternoon.
He made the suggestion in response to questions raised by Opposition members of Parliament following his statement on the Government’s response to the Zika virus threat.
Dr Tufton said that of 787 Jamaicans tested for the dreaded virus, 408 results have been received.
These results show that 21 tests were positive for the virus, including two pregnant women who are being continuously monitored.
