Two UN police officers fatally shot in Haiti
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CMC) – A joint investigation has been launched by the UN police force and local police following the fatal shooting of two female officers from the UN police force.
The officers, both from Rwanda, were found dead in their home on Wednesday.
In a statement on Thursday,the Rwanda National Police said the two female officers who were serving under the UN stabilisation mission in Haiti, were shot dead inside their living quarters in Cap Haitien by unidentified assailants.
Sandra Honore, the UN special representative and head of the mission, expressed her regrets and sent condolences to the families of the deceased.
MINUSTAH was deployed to Haiti in 2004 after the fall of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide .
Its numbers were reinforced after the January 2010 earthquake that devastated the capital Port-au-Prince and killed more than 200,000 Haitians and 102 UN staff.
