Two arrested in connection with ganja shipment
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An aviation services employee and a security officer, who were arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act last Tuesday by members of the Border Security Branch, have been charged.
They are: 23-year-old Martin Morgan and 49 year-old Howard Atkinson who have been charged with conspiracy, dealing in ganja and taking steps to export ganja.
The charges arose from an incident that occurred about 1:25 pm, when police officers intercepted a shipment of fifty boxes which were consigned by a London-based company at the Kingston branch of the aviation services company. The boxes were searched and two of them were found to contain five packages of compressed ganja weighing approximately 15 pounds.
The drug has an estimated street value of $120,000.
Morgan and Atkinson are scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday.
