Two arrested on drug charges
KINGSTON, Jamaica– Two people were arrested and 40.3 pounds of ganja was seized by the police on Wednesday, during checks made at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston.
Reports from the Transnational Crime and Narcotic Division (TCND) are that about 12:45 pm, a man arrived at the NMIA and was about to check in, when he was stopped for security screening. Ganja amounting to 7.2 pounds, with an estimated street value of JMD 36,000 was found in his luggage.
Hours later, a woman who was checking in was also arrested after a search of her luggage revealed several parcels of ganja. The weight of the illicit drug is estimated to be 33.1 pounds, with a street value of JMD 165,500.
The identities of both persons are being withheld at this time.
