US Ambassador to open Expo 2015
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Notable speakers have been a highlight of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s biennial trade shows and Expo 2015, to be staged at the Montego Bay Convention from October 9 to 11, is expected to continue that tradition.
United States Ambassador to Jamaica, Luis Morena, will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony of Expo 2015 on Friday, October 9. The trade show, now in its 16th staging, is showcasing the best of Jamaica’s goods and services to western Jamaica.
Ambassador Moreno, a career member of the senior foreign services, is now in the ninth month of his posting to Jamaica.
Prior to his appointment as US Ambassador to Jamaica, Moreno served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Madrid, Spain, and from 2010 to 2011 he served as Political-Military Minister Counselor and Force Strategic Engagement Cell Director in Baghdad, Iraq. In addition to other postings, Ambassador Moreno also served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The ambassador will declare the expo open and tour the creative exhibits from industries such as tourism, manufacturing, creative, BPO, and agriculture.
“We are honoured to have Ambassador Moreno address Expo 2015,” said Expo 2015 chair, Sonia Clarke Bowen, who further states that he has proven himself to be a true friend of Jamaica, securing tremendous support for the country’s law enforcement and defence, especially in securing the coast.
Clarke Bowen pointed out that, “Expo 2015 is more than just a showcase of creative exhibits, as it is also geared towards presenting practical solutions to potential and existing business operators, especially through its seminars and business consultation sessions facilitated by JAMPRO.”
She said the business engagement sessions are useful tools for people interested in tapping their entrepreneurial spirit, including tertiary students, who she encourages to explore the myriad business opportunities, in light of limited employment options.
