UWI lecturer Charmaine Henry laid to rest
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – Family members, representatives from the media, students, well-wishers, and friends were among the hundreds who converged today at the Fellowship Tabernacle in St Andrew, to celebrate the life of CARIMAC and JTB stalwart Charmaine Henry.
Henry died in hospital on July 27 after being ill for some time.
“She was blessed with a sharp intellect, as well as a wit and wisdom way beyond her years,” said her friend and co-worker, Professor Hopeton Dunn in her commemoration.
A PhD candidate at the University of the West Indies, Henry was described as a leader with a “larger than life personality” who was “the champion of the oppressed”.
She was a communication and public relations lecturer at the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication, UWI, Mona campus, and “will be greatly missed by the student body and faculty”.
“Light a match in a dark room and watch as the light instantly overcomes the darkness. Observe the power and grace of that single, solitary flame dancing with life, this was Charmaine,” Michael Anthony Cuffe said.
There were also tributes from the Jamaica Tourist board.
“Charmaine was energetic, creative and full of life,” said Beverly Johnson of the JTB in the remembrance.
