IPL apologises to MVP athletes
INDEPENDENCE Park Ltd General Manager Major Desmon Brown, has expressed regret for the incident which saw MVP athletes, including world and Olympic champions Shelly Ann Fraser, Melanie Walker and Asafa Powell being barred from entering the Stadium East complex this morning.Related story:MVP athletes locked out of Stadium East
The three were among 14 track stars that turned up for training at the complex only to be told by security guards that they were under instructions to bar them from entering the venue.
But Brown told the Observer that he had written a letter of apology to the group and said IPL was sorry for any embarrassment caused.
He explained that a small track meet was scheduled to be held at the Stadium East today and that security personnel had been informed to disallow entry to athletes who usually train at the facility during daytime hours.
“It was misterpreted,” a sedate sounding Brown said.
“I am taking steps to ensure that this doesn’t happen again,” he added. “This is unacceptable and we just have to accept responsibility.”
