Carnal abuse

The case of a 13-year-old schoolgirl who was allegedly carnally abused in two separate incidents, is among the 26 cases to be disposed of in the Hanover Circuit Court over the next two weeks. Five other carnal abuse cases are also down for trial.

The court opened in the parish on Monday.

In the matter of the 13-year-old girl, allegations are that on Thursday, March 2 of last year, while on her way from school, she was propositioned by 18-year-old Alexis Barrett to have sex with him.

She reportedly said no but asked if she could sleep with him. He allegedly agreed and took her to his home in the area. While there, however, they reportedly engaged in sexual intercourse and the 13-year-old left Barrett’s home the following day.

The police reported that the same Friday she left Barrett’s home she spent the day with a friend but in the evening she saw Carver Ellis, 21, with whom she spent the entire weekend. And during her stay at his home, they allegedly had sex.

She reportedly left his home on Monday after hearing that her father had been looking for her and had in fact reported her missing to the police.

Later, she is alleged to have been found by her father and taken to the Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea for examination. Barrett and Carver were subsequently slapped with carnal abuse charges and the 13-year-old sent to the place of safety in the area.

She is now in foster care.

The two accused who appeared in court on Monday are to return on March 1 for trial.

The other criminal matters to be disposed of over the next two weeks include five rapes and nine cases of wounding with intent. There is also a case of grievous bodily harm, a burglary, a murder and an attempted murder and the case of the pastor, Arnold Morgan, who was slapped with two counts of bigamy last May.
