JLP opens election campaign tomorrow
Western Bureau: The opposition Jamaica Labour Party will launch its campaign for general elections in Savanna-la-Mar’s Independence Park tomorrow.
The event, which gets underway at 6:00 pm, will be the venue where the party will reveal its all-attorney slate for Westmoreland. According to a party official, Trevor Brooks, Patrick Atkinson and Donovan Foote will be named as candidates.
“Westmoreland is going to be on fire because our polls are showing that we are ahead in two of the three constituencies and that eastern Westmoreland is very tight,” said the high-ranking Jamaica Labour Party official.
“It will be an all-attorney parish, and they are all sons of Westmoreland.”
Brooks will run against sitting People’s National Party Member of Parliament Karl Blythe in Central Westmoreland; Atkinson will face off against Wykeham McNeil in the western end of the constituency; and Donovan Foote will try to wrest the Eastern Westmoreland seat from Prime Minister P J Patterson.
The main speakers at the conference will be Opposition leader, Edward Seaga, along with party bigwigs such as Ed Bartlett, Audley Shaw, Ken Baugh and Derrick Smith.
