St James JAS cops nine prizes
WESTERN BUREAU — The St James Agriculture Society was once again the recipient of the coveted Rudolph Burke (Parish Pavilion Display) trophy at this year’s Denbigh Agriculture Show.
They also managed to capture nine of the 10 sectional prizes, including those for environmental suitability, agro-business and industry, adaptable technology, outstanding feature and co-operative and community involvement.
The show was staged over the Emancipation/Independence weekend.
According to a press release from the JAS, its committee members, working under the theme ‘Moving Agriculture Forward Through Bold Initiatives’, were able to produce an eye-catching array of “great artwork, arrangements and creative skills”. It was that which earned them the awards.
The display featured ornamental fish production, ornamental agriculture and the raring of exotic birds. In addition, there was also an environmental display, which highlighted the Great River Watershed ‘Ridge to Reef’ project and proper watershed management on the whole.
The importance of technology, notably drip irrigation, e-commerce, audio visual extension teaching aids, biologically-produced plant food and banana produced via tissue culture techniques, were also featured.
