Girl, 5, killed in drive-by shooting
A five year-old girl, Shanti Hamilton of Cleveland Road in downtown Kingston, was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting Sunday night.
Two men, aged 62 and 32 years of Victoria Avenue were also injured in the attack.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), at about 7:15 pm a white Toyota Corolla motorcar drove along Victoria Avenue, stopped at the intersection with Cleveland Avenue and the occupants opened fire hitting Shanti in her abdomen and chest and the 62 year-old man in his left leg. They then proceeded to the Malvern Avenue intersection where they again opened fire hitting a 32 year-old man in his left leg before speeding off.
The three were taken to hospital where Shanti died while undergoing treatment and the others admitted in a stable condition. They were, however, released from hospital yesterday and sent home.
Sunday’s incident brings the number of drive-by shooting incidents in the Corporate Area to four in the last three months.
The last incident took place on October 11 on Grove Road in Kingston which resulted in the death of Patrick Blair, 28, of a Grove Road address and the injury of another man.
Blair was standing at the corner of Lyndhurst and Grove Roads when two gunmen rode up on a motorcycle and opened fire.
Earlier in the month, two other drive-by shootings occurred, including at the Maxfield Avenue and Rousseau Road intersection and another in Tivoli Gardens, West Kingston.
Two persons, Otis Webb, 22, and 32 year-old taxi operator, Roy Morrison, were killed and 14 others injured in the incident at Maxfield Avenue/Rousseau Road.
One day later in what the police said was a reprisal shooting, gunmen drove through Tivoli Gardens and fatally shot one man and injured another.
