MONTEGO BAY — Life underwriter Douglas Bryan celebrated 10 years of outstanding service with Life of Jamaica by being the top agent in the restructured Montego Bay branch for 2001.

In recognition of his hard work, Bryan also received the Branch Manager’s trophy for excellence, which was the first prize for having the highest premium income. He also qualified for the company’s prestigious Million Dollar Round Table.

The announcement was made at the branch’s recent sales awards, held at the Holiday Inn Sunspree resort.

Bryan was one of the 23 members of staff who, according to branch manager Alva Lawrence, ended the year by making 95 per cent of their 1,900 quota cases. As a result they netted $27 million of the $32 million targeted. This made up 11 per cent of LOJ’s total production for the year.

“(During 2001) we were never spared the continuous exposure of both the written and electronic media where most of the positives were down-played for the negatives … but through it all we played our part and we survived,” Lawrence said.

And Lawrence challenged his staff to make 2002 a year of tremendous achievement while warning them that this would take “the strongest level of commitment”.

During the awards presentation, president and CEO of LOJ, Maxine MacLure commended Lawrence and his team for their contribution to the company. According to her, the combined effort of branches across the island had translated into LOJ surpassing its sales quota by achieving 105 percent.

In addition to its insurance interest in the western city, LOJ owns the $110-million Montego Bay Shopping Centre, a $290-million commercial complex at Montego Freeport and a 100-acre residential development at Anchovy Estates.
