Americas’ Sail Tall Ship Festival for MoBay
The Americas’ Sail Tall Ship Festival 2002, which began in Port Antonio yesterday, comes to Montego Bay today with a number of planned activities.
At 9:45 am the ships will sail from Wyndham Rose Hall into the Montego Bay harbour to kick off the festivities.
Then at 5: 00 pm a civic ceremony will be held in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay to officially welcome participants of the Americas’ Sail to Montego Bay.
Minister of Tourism and Sport Portia Simpson Miller will be the main speaker at the ceremony.
At 7:30 pm the Montego Bay Chapter of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association will host a party dubbed “Carnival on the Pier” at the Cruise Ship Terminal in Freeport.
On Sunday and Monday between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm the public will have the opportunity to view the ships at the Cruise Ship Terminal.
On Sunday night the Montego Bay Committee for the Americas’ Sail Festival will host another party called “The Captains’ Beach Fiesta” at the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall, starting at 7:00 pm.
The festivities end on Monday night with a grand fireworks display over the Montego Bay Harbour.
There is also an ongoing exhibition at the Montego Bay Civic Centre showcasing over 30 model ships constructed by students from the island’s schools.
