Arsonists destroy Bethsalem house
FIRE believed to be the work of arsonist(s) gutted a seven-apartment concrete house at Bethsalem, St Elizabeth on Tuesday, the police said yesterday.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that at about 6:00 am, occupants of the house returned home and saw the building on fire. The fire brigade was summoned and one unit from the Black River Fire Department extinguished the remaining flames. Loss is estimated at $2.5 million and the house was not insured.
The Maggoty Police, who are investigating, say that the house was set ablaze in retaliation for the fatal stabbing of Roger Sutherland, allegedly by an occupant of the house the previous day.
Ten year-old killed in Frankfield accident
A 10 year-old boy was Tuesday killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Frankfield main road in Clarendon.
He has been identified as Shamar Williamson of Lime Kilm district in the parish.
The police said that at about 8:10 am, a Toyota Corolla motor car driven by Mark Simpson of Trout Hall was travelling along the Frankfield main road. On reaching a section of the road, Williamson who was crossing the road was hit by the vehicle. He sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby medical facility where he was pronounced dead.
