Guns, ammo seized in Central Kgn raid
THE police yesterday seized five handguns, nine magazines and 336 rounds of ammunition at the St Michael’s Primary and Junior High School in the community of Southside in Kingston.
The weapons were found wrapped in rubber, a Welch’s grape juice plastic bottle and ‘scandal’ bags, while the ammunition was found in packages of cornmeal. A small amount of ganja was also found on the scene.
No one was arrested in connection with the catch of arms and ammunition.
According to the police, two Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistols, one colt MV45 pistol, a Heckler and Koch revolver, a Ruger pistol, 129 rounds of .45 rounds, 129 9mm rounds and 78 AK-47 shots were found after the police raided a premises and recovered the arms.
The arms and ammunitions find was effected by a team of 35 police officers, led by Inspector Winston Henderson of the Flying Squad.
Superintendent James Forbes, head of the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), told a group of journalists at the Flying Squad in downtown Kingston that the police were still working on certain aspects of the case.
“This is a major recovery for the CIB, and while no arrests were made, we are still doing some homework to identify who could have put those weapons there and any other information that would lead the investigators to put some persons behind bars,” Forbes said.
Troy Anderson, liaison officer of the CCN, pointed out that the Heckler and Koch weapon was stolen from a businessman in downtown Kingston last year. “Last year November, a businessman was walking along King Street when three men armed with guns robbed him of this weapon and $250,000.”
Head of the Flying Squad, Superintendent Cornwall “Bigga” Ford, told the Observer that the find was due to increased vigilance on the part of the security forces.
“This is due to good police work. We just want the public to see our handiwork and it cannot be accomplished without the assistance of the general public. We are appealing to the public, just call us, we will do the work,” Ford said proudly.
