Three killed in taxi crash
THREE people died yesterday and two more were admitted to the Spanish Town Hospital in serious condition after a taxi-cab slammed into a GMC gas tanker on Old Harbour Road in the vicinity of McCooks Pen, while overtaking a line of traffic.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), Curlisa Knight, 42, of Spring Village, Bushy Park; 19 year-old Cleon Folkes of Portmore; and an unidentified woman died on the spot after a white Toyota Corolla driven by a taxi operator known only as “Jookie Jam”, en route to Old Harbour, ran underneath the GMC truck which was heading towards Spanish Town.
“Six persons were in the car, three died on the spot while the other two were taken to Spanish Town Hospital in serious condition,” Constable Oliver Livingston told the Observer last night.
“Jookie Jam”, according to Constable Livingston, received no injuries and was helped from the scene by a public passenger bus driver.
“The driver was literally picked up by a public passenger driver,” he said.
The constable said “Jookie Jam” who, like one of the victims, hails from Spring Village, is likely to face manslaughter charges when caught.
