Strong police presence in Jones Town
THE police yesterday maintained a strong presence in Jones Town, the community where businessman and political activist, George Phang, 47, was shot and injured by gunmen Thursday night.
“The area is very quiet but tense at this time, but we are keeping a round-the-clock mobile presence in the area, said a detective investigator at the Denham Town Police Station.
He said the police had not yet determined a motive for the shooting nor had any suspects but, “we are following all leads that (have) come to our notice”.
Phang, manager of the Arnett Gardens Football club, was shot at the corner of Septimus and Thompson streets in Jones Town while playing dominoes with friends. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and was reported yesterday to be in a critical but stable condition. Two other men, who also received gunshot wounds during the shooting, were also in hospital.
The police reported that at about 9:30 pm Thursday, a white Toyota Corolla motor car drove up and the occupants opened fire on Phang and the other domino players.
