German tourist drowns in Portland
WOLFGANG Eisold, a 75 year-old medical doctor from Holdenburg, Germany, drowned at about 1:45 pm at the San San Beach in Portland on Wednesday.
Eisold, who was vacationing at the Fern Hill Hotel, went to the beach with a female companion when he reportedly got into difficulties while in the water.
Other swimmers and members of the San San staff, including a visiting nurse, ran to his assistance. He was taken from the water and attempts were made at resuscitation.
But after he was taken to the Port Antonio Hospital, the German resident was examined by a doctor who pronounced dead.
His body was removed to the morgue and a post mortem is to be conducted to determine the cause of death. No foul play is suspected as there were no marks of violence on his body.
The Port Antonio police are investigating.
