JAAA names powerful team for World Relays
KINGSTON, Jamaica — World Athletics Championships medallists Oblique Seville, Kishane Thompson and Tina Clayton have been included in a powerful team named by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) for next month’s World Athletics Relays, scheduled for May 2 and 3, in Gaborone, Botswana.
Seville, who won the gold medal at last year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan and Thompson will lead the men’s 4x100m relay pool that will also include Ackeem Blake and Ryiem Forde.
The women’s 4x100m pool will include Clayton, her twin sister Tia, World Indoor 60m finalist Jonielle Smith as well as Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah.
Former St Andrew High and University of Minnesota standout Janielle Josephs has been named on her first national senior team and is part of the female 4x400m relay pool that will also include Shana Kaye Anderson and Leah Anderson as well as hurdles specialists Rochelle Clayton, Andrenette Knight and Shian Salmon.
Reheem Hayles, who was part of the bronze medal winning men’s 4x400m relay team at the World Indoors, is part of the men’s 4x400m relay pool that also includes Jevaughn Powell, former World Championships gold medalist Antonio Watson, Deandre Watkins and hurdles specialists Roshawn Clarke and Assine Wilson.
Jamaica are expected to compete in six events at the two-day meet, the men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m as well as the Mixed 4x100m and Mixed 4x400m relays.
