St James man on manslaughter rap
WESTERN BUREAU — Kimani Rankine, 21, of Norwood in St James will appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court today to answer manslaughter charges in connection with the death of his friend, Linval Grant.
Grant was thrown from a blue Toyota Corolla motor car, registered 5098DR, which Rankine was driving on Monday. The telemarketing supervisor later succumbed to his injuries at the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was taken for treatment.
The accident reportedly happened at about 3:30 am as the men headed towards Montego Bay from Hopewell in Hanover. Rankine reportedly lost control of the vehicle that later overturned, and Grant was thrown from the car which eventually landed on its top inside mangrove bushes in the area.
There have been 11 deaths and nine traffic accidents in the parish since the start of the year.
