Professors Wint, Vascianne get Vice Chancellor’s Award
THE Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence for 2003 has been awarded to four members of the academic staff based at the Mona, Cave Hill and St Augustine campuses of the University of the West Indies, and the Health Economics Unit at St Augustine in Trinidad.
The members of staff at the Mona Campus are Professor Stephen Vascianne of the Department of Government, for excellence in teaching; Professor Terrence Forrester of the Tropical Medicine Research Institute for excellence in research; Velma Newton, law librarian at the Cave Hill Campus, for excellence in public service, including the private sector and the non-government community; Professor Alvin Wint, Department of Management Studies at Mona for all-round excellence in teaching, University Service and Public Service and the Health Economics Unit at the St Augustine Campus for all-round excellence in research, University Service and Public Service.
The Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence was instituted in 1994 as a way of recognising excellence on the part of the academic and senior administrative staff. Awards are made in the areas of teaching and/or administration; research; university service and all-round performance in a combination of two or more of the other four areas. Each awardee receives US$5000.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held at the Cave Hill Campus in Barbados later this year.
