Suspected cop killers nabbed
DISCOVERY BAY, St Ann — Cops have nabbed two men who were wanted in connection with the May 8 fatal shooting of Constable Colin Taylor.
The men, who have not yet been charged, are to face an identification parade. But on Wednesday, St Ann cops appeared confident that the men in custody are the two who were being sought in connection with their colleague’s death.
“They are the same men,” Superintendent Ray Palmer of the St Ann police told the Observer .
The men were held in two separate police operations in St Ann and St Catherine on Monday.
According to police reports, shortly after 2:00 on Monday afternoon, members of the St Ann special squad were conducting a spot check along the Steerfield main road in the Golden Grove section of the parish when a white Mazda motorcar was stopped. The driver of the vehicle was identified as one of the men being sought by the police in connection with Constable Taylor’s killing, and was taken into custody.
The other suspect was held the same afternoon when the St Ann police, under the command of deputy superintendent of police, Anthony Castell, and members of the St Catherine North police, carried out a raid at 466 Charlemont Housing Scheme in St Catherine. Superintendent Palmer told the Observer that the raid was geared specifically at accosting the accused.
The two men, he added, would soon be charged.
Taylor was shot and killed at about 4:00 pm on May 8 on Don Diego Drive in Hopewell District in Discovery Bay after he accompanied two men, who were trying to retrieve a motorcycle, to a home in the community.
