St James murder toll passes 100 mark
WESTERN BUREAU – Desmond Jolly, a 39 year-old plumber from Norwood Gardens in St James, became the 101st person to have died violently in the parish since the start of the year.
Jolly was shot and killed by unknown assailants at his home at around 12:45 Wednesday morning.
According to police reports, Jolly’s common-law wife came home and found three men in the yard where she lived with the plumber. Two of the men were armed with guns while the other was armed with a knife.
She tried to run away but the men chased and caught her, then took her back to the house where they ordered her to call Jolly to open the grill. She did, her common-law husband complied and two of the armed men left the couple on the verandah with the third man while they searched the house.
When the men returned to the verandah, they relieved Jolly’s common-law wife of her cellular phone and fired a shot, which hit Jolly. He was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Members of the Montego Bay police force, who are carrying out investigations, suspect robbery as the motive for the killing.
