St James trio on abduction, carnal abuse charges
MONTEGO BAY, St James – A woman and two men charged with the abduction and carnal abuse of a 13 year-old girl were this week offered bail in the sum of $290,000.
The accused, who appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, include:
. Latoya Adlam, 23;
. Denmark Walker, 27; and
. Sheldon Scott, 26, all of Adelphi in St James.
Walker and Scott, who were offered bail in the sum of $100,000 and $90,000 respectively, have been charged with carnal abuse while Adlam, who was offered bail in the sum of $100,000, has been charged with abduction, procurement and two counts of aiding and abetting carnal abuse. They are to reappear before the RM court on February 18.
The 13 year-old girl reportedly left her home on the morning of January 22 under the pretext of going to school when she had in fact been expelled. She later met with Adlam whom she had met previously and to whom she had complained about problems at home. Adlam allegedly invited the teen to stay with her in Adelphi where the minor was introduced to Walker.
The following night, Walker reportedly visited Adlam’s home and took the little girl to his house where he had sexual intercourse with her. She reportedly returned to Adlam’s house the following morning, with $500 that Walker had given her. At 9:00 pm on January 24, Walker reportedly went back to the house for the minor and again took her away to have sexual intercourse with her.
Then on January 26, Adlam reportedly took her to Scott’s house where she introduced them. The 13 year-old is alleged to have spent the night having sexual intercourse with him. Two days later, on January 28, she was introduced to a third man known only as “Ganna”, who is alleged to have also taken her from Adlam’s home to have sexual intercourse with her. He paid her $200 before sending her away the following morning, it is reported.
The episode, however, came to an end on that day, January 29, as the child’s father – acting on information concerning her whereabouts – went with the police to Adlam’s house and took her away. Adlam, Scott and Walker were subsequently arrested and slapped with the relevant charges. “Ganna” is yet to be apprehended.
In court Wednesday, defence attorney Albert Morgan refuted the allegations against Adlam who, he said, told him that having admitted the girl to her home, had noticed that she gravitated to the young men in the area. However, despite numerous warnings to disassociate herself from them, the girl continued to do so, the attorney said. At one point, he added, Adlam told the little girl to pack her bags because she could not tolerate her behaviour.
