Cop accused of assaulting tourists back in court today
Thirty-nine year-old police corporal, Calvin Antonio, who has been accused of assaulting three American college students who are in the island for spring break, will return to court today.
The cop is alleged to have physically abused university student, Jessica Senecal, of Kentucky, USA and two of her female friends, after Senecal reportedly refused to dance with him at a popular Negril entertainment spot.
The alleged attack was reported to the Negril police station and the students received treatment at the Negril Medical Centre.
According to the superintendent in charge of crime for Area One, John Morris, the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) launched a probe into the incident soon after the report was made.
“The probe was completed on Tuesday and a case file submitted to the clerk of court for a ruling on the same day,” he told the Observer yesterday.
The court he added, ruled that the officer be charged with three counts of assault.
Corporal Antonio is assigned to the Alligator Pond police station in Manchester but was recently deployed to the tourist resort town to help beef up security during spring break.
