KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Lupus Foundation of Jamaica is calling on corporate Jamaica, small businesses and the wider public to show their support for people living with lupus by participating in a national “Go Purple” initiative in observance of World Lupus Day to be celebrated on May 10, 2026.

Under the global theme “Make Lupus Visible” and the local call to action “One Voice. One Community. One Fight.”, the foundation is encouraging organisations to take simple but impactful steps to raise awareness for lupus, an often-invisible autoimmune disease affecting many Jamaicans.

Businesses across the island are being urged to: change their social media profile logos to purple in solidarity, illuminate offices, buildings, and storefronts with purple lighting, and share awareness messages across their digital platforms.

Members of the public are also invited to join the movement by updating their social media profile photos with purple accents, wearing purple on World Lupus Day and sharing messages of support to help spread awareness.

“Lupus is often called an invisible illness, but together we can make it visible,” said a representative of the Lupus Foundation of Jamaica. “By turning our digital spaces and physical environments purple, we are sending a strong, unified message of support, awareness and hope.”

The foundation said the “Go Purple” initiative aims to spark national conversation, increase understanding and show solidarity with individuals and families affected by lupus.

Through collective action, it hopes to highlight the importance of early diagnosis, proper care and community support.

As Jamaica joins the global community in observing World Lupus Day, the Lupus Foundation is reminding everyone that awareness starts with visibility, and visibility starts with each of us.
