Cabinet approves sale of Cow Park
Cabinet on Monday approved the sale of approximately 50 acres of land at Cow Park, St Catherine to WISYNCO to facilitate expansion and consolidation of its White Marl operations.
The sale price will vary between a minimum of $65 million and a maximum of $70 million, depending on the method of payment, Information Minister Senator Burchell Whiteman said.
He said the expansion would have a direct effect on the country’s economy, as WISYNCO was a “profitable enterprise with good growth potential.”
Among other Cabinet decisions announced from Monday’s Cabinet meeting were:
.The award of contracts to Hillrom Limited and Tyco Health Care to supply medical equipment for the new intensive care unit and operating theatres at the University Hospital of the West Indies, Mona, at a cost of $38.8 million.
The hospital is responsible for the procurement of medical supplies and equipment it uses and, in accordance with established guidelines for procurement by public sector institutions, has invited bids for an 8-bed intensive care unit and two operating theatres that are being constructed at a cost of $145 million.
.The award of a contract to Trapeze Software Group for US$932,205 to supply scheduling and dispatching software for the Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC). The resulting improvements in efficiency would ultimately reduce the company’s operating costs, Whiteman said.
. The lease of 2 1/2 acres of land and two warehouses at the old Cotton Polyester Textile plant in Old Harbour to West Indies Home Contractors (WHICON) for the construction of offices and location for a casting yard, and the lease of a warehouse on the same premises to Beta Value Supermarket Limited. The lease rate is $35,000 per month and the period of lease is 2 1/2 years.
