Circus not approved, says mayor
MAYOR of Kingston Desmond McKenzie said the Suarez Circus that was scheduled to open at the Stadium East field last night was not given the necessary approval by the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC).
The mayor said that although the promoters of the circus were advertising the event, the necessary inspections and recommendations from the fire and public health departments, which are prerequisites to the corporation’s approval, were not completed.
Cops could take gov’t to court
THE Jamaica Police Federation said yesterday that it was not ruling out the possibility of taking government to court to press its demands for improved wage and fringe benefits for the more than 7,000 rank-and-file policemen and women it represents.
“The Police Federation has more than one options open to us to take government to court, but we are now taking legal and technical advice and based on that we will take the advice of our lawyers,” federation chairman Corporal Raymond Wilson told journalists at a press briefing at the Hilton Hotel, Kingston, yesterday.
Policeman shot and injured, gun stolen
A police corporal from the Motorised Patrol Division was shot and injured by gunmen at Braeton in Portmore, St Catherine, Thursday night.
According to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN), at about 10:15 pm the corporal was opening his gate when a white Toyota Corolla motor car drove up. “Two gunmen alighted from the vehicle and opened fire, hitting him,” said the CCN.
The men, the police said, took the policeman’s licensed firearm. He was taken to hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.
Mechanic shot dead in Waterford
A 25 year-old mechanic was shot dead by unknown assailants at Issadore Way, Waterford, St Catherine, Thursday night.
The mechanic, Melvin Gordon, otherwise called “Boo”, resided at Dartagon Way in the community.
