Customs clerk on gun, ammo charges
CUSTOMS clerk Donovan Roy Taylor, 47, of Balcombe Drive, Kingston 11, has been formally charged following intensive police investigations into the November 8, 2005 arms find at Kingston Wharves.
Twelve rifles, three shotguns and five handguns were found on the wharves during a police operation. One hundred and 29 assorted rounds of ammunition and 13 magazines were also found.
Taylor, who was implicated, was arrested during a pre-dawn raid in the tough community of Waterhouse in Kingston on January 8, 2006.
He appeared in court this week on charges of conspiracy with intent to import firearms, conspiracy with intent to import ammunition and conspiracy with intent to import restricted goods.
He was also charged with conspiracy to deceive, attempting to obtain, possession of forged documents and uttering of forged documents charges.
Taylor will return to Court on Monday.
Head of Operation Kingfish Glenmore Hinds, who led the operation, said the arms were destined for the Spanish-Town based Clansman gang and its late leader Donovan “Bulbie” Bennett, who was killed by police during an operation in October 2005.
