THE state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company yesterday announced changes to its routes in Kingston to accommodate the special delegates’ conference of the ruling People’s National Party and the annual Gibson Relays at the National Stadium.
The bus company said:
. Buses operating on routes 61,66, 68, 77 and 78 will, between the hours of 12:00 pm and 9:00 pm, turn off Old Hope Road in the vicinity of Fairway Avenue and return to Old Hope Road on Seaview Avenue. This will not affect persons going to Stanton Terrace.
. The bus stop outside of Jamaica College will not be in use from 6:00 am until it is released by traffic police on duty. Commuters wishing to go to that location should disembark at bus stops before and after Jamaica College.
The JUTC said, too, that commuters at the National Stadium and the National Arena should expect that buses outside the stadium after 8:30 pm to travel to the following destinations:
. Special shuttle to Half-Way-Tree;
. Route 21 to Spanish Town;
. Route 16A to Greater Portmore and Gregory Park;
. Route 20 to Greater Portmore and Portmore Pines;
. Route 83 to Half-Way-Tree and also Mountain View; and
. Route 99 to Harbour View.
In the meantime, the police said persons attending the Gibson Relays at the National Stadium will not be allowed to carry firearms, knives, bottles, umbrellas with pointed tips, or large igloos.
Licensed firearm holders, the police said, will have to leave their firearms with their local police or make alternative arrangements for the safe-keeping of their weapons.
