American drug accused could face deportation
FALMOUTH, Trelawny – Three American nationals from the state of Florida were arrested on ganja charges by the police in this western parish on Wednesday, but they could end up being deported.
The three, brothers Peter and Christopher Rouleau, and Sandra Hunter, said to be the girlfriend of Christopher, and whose street addresses could not be ascertained, were taken Thursday before the Duncans RM Court where Resident Magistrate Frank Williams ordered them remanded in custody until Monday, when the case is to again come up for mention.
The court was informed that the three were arrested in a raid at a house in Duncans Bay and charged with possession of ganja, and dealing in ganja. In addition, Peter Rouleau was charged with possession of a chillum pipe, which is used for smoking ganja.
Also, the court was told that at least two of the defendants were fugitives from justice in the United States, having been convicted there of charges of distributing amphetamine tablets, and given 10-year sentences.
Attorney-at-law Winston Douglas, who represented the trio, applied for bail for Hunter on “humanitarian grounds”, stating that she had a seven-month-old baby girl who was still being breast-fed. The infant is being kept at the Blossom Gardens Place of Safety, St James.
However, Clerk of Courts Lois Nelson objected to Hunter being granted bail.
It is likely that when the three Americans return to court on Monday immigration authorities will present warrants and other relevant documents and apply for orders to deport them.
