‘The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender’ leaks online months before premiere
A full, non-watermarked version of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, the upcoming animated sequel film, has reportedly surfaced online months ahead of its official release.
According to a Yahoo report, multiple full-length copies of the movie began circulating on Twitter as early as April 13, marking what has been described as one of the most significant Hollywood leaks in recent years.
The film, directed by Lauren Montgomery, was originally planned for a theatrical debut but was later shifted to a streaming release on Paramount+ late last year.
Addressing the change in distribution, Montgomery previously wrote on Instagram that the move to streaming should not be seen as a reflection of the film’s quality. She also emphasised that the movie was made for the big screen and deserves a theatrical experience.
The report also indicated that a Twitter user claimed to have received the film “accidentally” via email prior to the leak. It remains unclear whether Nickelodeon or Paramount were compromised through a hack or data breach.
In response, a wave of DMCA strikes has been issued to curb the spread of the unauthorised copies.
Set several years after the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, the film follows Aang and his companions as they encounter an ancient airbender. The new voice cast includes Eric Nam as Aang, Dionne Quan as Toph, Steven Yeun as Zuko, and Dave Bautista as the character Tagah.
The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ on October 9.
