Blazing gunfire kills two, injures seven in Waterhouse
TWO men were killed Tuesday night and seven others shot and injured during an attack on residents of the inner-city community of Waterhouse in Kingston, the Jamaican capital.
The dead were identified by the police as Bernard Williams, 26, of Psalms Avenue, and 53-year-old Lincoln Moore of Fairview Avenue, both in Waterhouse.
According to the police, shortly after 10:00 Tuesday night the men were among a group of people playing dominoes at the intersection of Unity Lane and Unity Avenue when men armed with high-powered rifles and handguns approached and started firing.
Three abandoned pairs of slippers and a hat belonging to some of the victims told the tale of the incident that occurred.
Williams was killed on the spot, while Moore died while undergoing treatment at hospital.
The other men have been admitted in hospital.
Residents of the area yesterday blamed the attack on an ongoing turf war between men from a section of Waterhouse known as ‘Just Cool’ and men from the bottom of Unity Lane.
“A down in the lane the man them deh weh them a war. Them just want to come shoot up innocent people up here,” one male resident said yesterday.
A youngster said he had to jump into a nearby gully to escape being shot.
