Is there a better way, Jamaica ?

It wasn’t me, I didn’t say it, but Jamaica has been likened to a prostitute with her legs wide open, I imagine waiting for the next Joe her pimp brings along.

It seems to me that our nation’s politicians sell Jamaica to anyone who wants a piece. Why does it seem as if the European hoteliers were allowed carte blanche to build anyhow they please on our beautiful but limited coastline? We now have to accept these gargantuan monstrosities as part of our architecture as they prominently disfigure our topography and desecrate our waters with their waste. And by the way, “Oo tief di SAN’ All five hundred truckloads of it?” Have our ecological watchdogs done a private investigation to get the truth to the public, the pure facts without fear and prejudice?

Another sell-out seems to be the Casino Gambling issue. Each time casino gambling is suggested to be the panacea of our financial woes there is a great hue and cry for and against it. Well for one thing, persons who say this form of gambling is the mother of all evil, and speak to the impending breakdown of the moral fibre in our society, are clearly clueless. Our people gamble on a whim and bet on anything that moves, or moves them one way or another! The Church gambles big time! Put your money in the offering pick up ten times the amount this week or more depending on the lucky scripture read for the offering that day! Olint , Cash Plus, LewFam, take your pick!

When our government cannot think of more industrious ways to earn foreign exchange and increase our GDP I begin to think “So who is making big bucks now from pimping out Jamaica Land We Love?”

Let’s talk about crime… who is benefiting from the proceeds of crime? Who is following the money to identify the perpetrators of death? Do our security forces have the ability to procure legitimate evidence from a crime scene to convincingly make a case that will stand up in our courts of law?

In the late seventies, the head of the Forensic Lab informed us Medical Technology students, that they lacked the capacity to carry out their duties effectively. They needed trained staff and equipment to bolster their efforts. Has anything changed since then? Has the government invested in this area to improve crime-fighting? What measures are in place to deter a criminal from committing crime? Is the law being enforced? If policemen are only transferred when they run foul of the law, will that force them to mend their ways? What is this government doing differently from the previous one? Why do things seem to be worse?

The Half Moon Shopping Village is home to The Heinz Simonitsch School, The MoBay Hope Medical Centre, The MoBay Hope Pharmacy, Half Moon Post Office and The Half Moon Branch of NCB. How many more deaths by traffic accident do we need to qualify for a TRAFFIC SIGNAL? Our illustrious neighbour has one that works very well and is definitely a fitting touch to their acclaimed prestige. However, sheer vehicular and pedestrian volume from our entrance alone, ought to suggest how urgently we need the STOP LIGHT. We have no intention of blocking the road or burning tyres. Is that where we falter? Just put up the STOP LIGHT PLEASE!!!

On to football. If the JFF thought that Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore could successfully handle a match of such great importance to Jamaica why did they even bother to get Rene Simoes? It is reasonable to assume that had Tappa been head coach all along, we might not have been in this predicament right now.

After Captain saw the Canada match and the weak team selection made by the Technical Director, he should have intervened right there and then! Even though we may win both our remaining matches, we still have to depend on the outcome of the other teams. If after Tappa leads the Reggae Boyz to victory and we still don’t make it, then Captain and his crew must go! Too much money has gone into this programme for us to just accept that it was just one of those things. Our footballers can compete with the best of them if we use our best team, and there is absolutely no reason for us to do otherwise.

Jamaica is our country that we love, but there are some among us who can only see dollar signs, and they have no problem pimping us out to the next Joe who can ‘gi dem a bread’. This has got to stop! Selah.
