John Lynch bows out as Unique Vacations VP
President of Miami-based Unique Vacations, Kevin Froemming, yesterday announced the resignation of Jamaican John Lynch as executive vice-president of sales worldwide, effective today.
Lynch, who is chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and one of the best known names in the world travel industry, served for 17 years in various capacities at Unique Vacations, worldwide representatives of Sandals Resorts, Beaches Resorts, The Royal Plantation Collection, and Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts. His resignation was handed in some time ago, but takes effect today.
And moving to head off any speculation about his decision, Lynch told the Travel Agent magazine: “I had no falling out with Sandals. The door is still open at Sandals and Unique Vacations. I’m leaving my position to take a little break.” He went on to describe Sandals Resorts as a wonderful forward-looking company.
Reacting to the resignation, Sandals Resorts chairman Gordon “Butch” Stewart praised Lynch for his invaluable service throughout the years, saying he will miss the gentle giant.
Stewart, who is currently attending the World Travel Market in London, said: “His experience and knowledge of the marketplace and the Caribbean region has served our company admirably. We wish him all the best that the future holds.”
Froemming also praised Lynch for his integral role in Sandals’ expansion from one single brand to four distinct resort brands.
“We are a stronger company today for the efforts of John Lynch,” he said. “His work to distinguish our brands and define new audiences has positioned Unique Vacations well.
He is truly an influential and sought-after expert and it has been my privilege to have called him my colleague.”
Lynch also remains chairman of Jamaica Vacations (JAMVAC).
