7th annual Tellabration set for Sunday
Organisers of the 7th annual ‘Tellabration’ session are promising a bigger and better event with live band music in addition to several acts at the Montego Bay Community College come Sunday.
Comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat and recording artiste Peter Lloyd will headline the event, a celebration of the oral tradition of storytelling.
Started in 1998 by United States storyteller extraordinaire J G ‘Paw Paw’ Pinkerton, Tellabration has- since 2001 – been the college’s main fundraiser for its welfare programmme, which has over 50 students on roll to date.
This year’s line-up includes the inimitable Tony Rodney, a gifted character actor who will, in addition to undertaking the role of MC, thrill the audience with his own brand of storytelling. Additional storytelling will come from Natecia Bohardsingh and Derrio Johnson as well as stellar performances from the school’s performing arts group and choir.
The entertainment package will also include Philip Clark’s Dance Spirit ensemble, which has been thrilling audiences throughout the west with song, dance and drama.
Co-ordinator Sylvia Cooke said the school is hoping to raise some $600,000 this year, a third more than they were able to raise last year.
Over the years excited audiences have packed into the school’s Lorna Nembhard Auditorium to see the likes of organiser Amina Blackwood-Meeks, who also stages sessions at Mountain Peace in Crawle, St Mary; Joan Andrea Hutchinson, Charles Hyatt, Blacka Ellis, Christopher Daley among others.
This year the cost remains at $700 for adults and $400 for students of the college and children.
