Wanted: Good Roads!
I have two major concerns; Bogue Hill and Catherine Hall.
We are asking the Ministers responsible for these constituencies to please take a good look and see how our roads are being kept. It is an absolute disgrace and I know that the citizens are having a hard time going to and fro.
The Salvation Army Headquarters and Catherine Hall Primary School are situated at the end of one of the worst roads in that said region. It is unhealthy for the people and our children to be travelling in pools of muddy contaminated water. Furthermore, if a disaster should happen, how would residents get assistance from The Salvation Army, whose main role is to help in times of adversity?
I have noticed truckloads of marl dumped in the vicinity for the past two weeks now and no work has started. I am sure the money had been allocated for quite some time now, so what has caused the delay? It is time the Government started taking this matter seriously, because it is causing us taxpayers billions of dollars each year.
Give us some proof that our hard earned tax dollars are being used in our society.
Also, the dust from the marl is sending some of our citizens and myself to the doctor’s office, and our cars to the mechanic and bodywork shops, long before they are due. So I ask ‘is there another option that could be undertaken for us the people of Montego Bay and other surroundings so that we could have long-lasting roads?’
Minister Mike Henry, I think the ministry should get back to the old days when we used small stones and asphalt. With respect, is it that the marl is cheaper in production or the country has little or no money to carry out the work on our dreaded roads?
We would like to know, because we are left with great frustration with this situation that has been the cause of many accidents, due to drivers having to swerve from left to right as if we are maniacs. This just does not add up for me at all.
I was glad to hear some good news just minutes before I finished writing this article; that work will commence on the Bogue road soon. Some of us will have a relief, because that said route for numerous years, has been the cause of huge traffic jams for several hours, causing many people to divert, especially in our rainy months. Many will welcome the reduction in the use of our fuel and irritation that this improvement will bring.
