A phone for Raleisha Irving

SErgeant Olivette McKenzie, Trelawny’s Community Safety and Security Coordinator and her colleague, Woman District Constable Michelle Bailey aren’t your traditional Santa Claus types. But last week when they saw little Raleisha Irving’s Christmas wish for a cellular telephone in the Observer West, they decided to help.
Raleisha was one of serveral persons who participated in an informal survey by the Observer West on Christmas Eve concerning their wishes for the Yuletide season. The majority of participants expressed wishes for peace and justice.
“We don’t know why, we don’t know what it was about this little girl that touched us, but we said a cell phone, that’s all? we must give it to her,” said Sergeant McKenzie. So they put together and bought one from Digicel.
Now it’s waiting at the Falmouth station to be picked up.
“We really want her to have it and hope that this simple gesture will enable her and others to see us in a positive light, because we really are here to help,” said Sergeant McKenzie, noting that she would love to forge a partnership with the telecommunications giants to beef up their community outreach efforts.
