Murder in Ironshore
IRONSHORE, St James – Up to late last night the St James police were trying to find the person who killed two women, execution-style, in a daring daylight gun attack in the Ironshore Industrial Estate community.
The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old unemployed Toni Noble who is also called ‘Munchie’ and 29-year-old sales clerk Alcian Smith, alias ‘Coochie’, both from Lilliput, St James.
Last night, investigators were seeking the boyfriend of one of the slain women for assistance in their investigations.
The double homicide has propelled the tally of murders in the parish to six, since the beginning of this year and three females within a week. Last year, 217 killings were recorded in the parish.
Corporal Ulette Lewis-Green, CCN liaison officer for St James, reported that at 12 noon citizens reportedly heard explosions in the area and summoned the police. Corporal Green said when the cops arrived at the scene, the two bodies were seen lying in a pool of blood, both with a single gunshot wound to the mouth.
The police surmise that the women were shot at point-blank range by the triggerman, who is believed to have ordered them to lie down before opening fire.
According to sources Noble – who went to the hardware to seek a job -was engaged in a conversation with her friend, Smith when they were pounced upon by the lone gunman.
When news broke of the tragic incident, a throng of curious onlookers converged on the scene quickly to get glimpses of the corpses.
Some of the bystanders stood atop a high-rise building to get a better view of the scene, while others on the ground jostled for a close-up view.
The incident sent shockwaves through the neighbouring, tough Flanker community, whose residents implored the media to point out that the tragic incident did not occur in their neighbourhood.
All were tight-lipped about the incident.
Yesterday’s double murder was committed in close promixity to the spot where a security guard was killed by gunmen last year.
